Dr. Sulochana Shekhar received Masters degrees in Geography from
Madurai Kamaraj University (Tamil Nadu) and Geo information Science
and systems from the University of Salzburg (Austria), and a PhD in
geography (Monitoring Urban sprawl of Pune by using remote sensing
and GIS techniques) from the University of Pune, Pune (Maharashtra).
Her teaching career started as Post graduate teacher in Kendriya
Vidyalaya, Bangalore in 1993. Before coming to Gulburga as Associate
professor in Geography (2011), she also taught at graduate and
post-graduate levels in Pune at National Defence Academy and
University of Pune.
Her research interest is application of GIS and remote sensing
techniques in urban environment. Having done her Post-Doctoral
research at ITC, The Netherlands in object-oriented analysis (OOA)
methods, she is currently involved in Informal settlement mapping by
using OOA. She has published her results from doctoral research in a
range of articles in international journals, and book chapters, and
presented at various International and National conferences.
She is a keen learner and she believes in “who dares to teach, must
never cease to learn”.
